•What are the key external factors affecting the organisation?
•Are we doing the right things?

Business Planning

Effective business planning - read more

What is it?

Effective business planning is about creating the right configuration of resources to meet the needs of the market profitably. Business plans are the key tool for raising finance from banks and other sources but are also critical in providing a realistic blue print in the early stages of the start up process.

A powerful plan captures the personal ambition of the directors as well as creating a compelling business case.

Funding Applications

Levels and Sources of Finance - read more

What is it?

Determining the appropriate levels and sources of finance is critical to business and organisations at every stage of development.

Eriskay Associates have the experience, skills and contacts to help you access funding from private and public sector sources.

Markets Research and Analysis

Understanding your customer - read more

Effective marketing starts with understanding your customer. But customers are changing. The things we need, the way we buy products, how much we are willing to pay for them and what we do if we are unhappy with them are all changing. Our needs and behaviours are different today compared to 20 years ago, 10 years ago, last year! Working with Eriskay Associates you can create a structured and insightful view of your market, your key customer groups, and the competitors that are currently supplying them. This is the starting point in understanding how you can profitably meet your customers’ needs.

Marketing Planning

Marketing is usually a creative and exciting process, but it needs to be grounded in reality. The key steps in creating an effective marketing plan include:

  • Understanding your customers’ needs through market research and analysis.
  • Segmenting and Profiling your key customer groups and understand how best to communicate with them.
  • Analyse the strengths and weaknesses of your competition.
  • Identify the capabilities and resources you need to meet those needs better than your competitors (and address any gaps).
  • Create clear and compelling messages for your target groups.
  • Develop a cost-effective communications plan, employing the right range of media.
  • Monitor and evaluate your results and refine your approach.

Previous clients include:

  • First Independent Finance
  • Isle of Skye Ferry CIC
  • Big Baby Productions
  • Re-Jig
  • Scottish Crofting Federation
  • Loch Broom Wood Fuels
  • Columba 1400

Problem Solving

Combine Effective Analytical Techniques with Creative Thinking - read more

Some of the problems we face in business can be addressed using standard solutions. A manufacturing problem? Then look at Lean or Six Sigma. Want to improve your sales? Then implement a CRM system.

Other problems, however, require a slightly more customized and thoughtful approach. By combining effective analytical techniques with creative out-of-the-box thinking, we can often find the solutions that evaded us.

  • Problems we have helped our clients address:
  • Finding the right resource configuration for a logistics business.
  • Overcoming slow sales conversion rates in a technology business.
  • Finding the right process model for a creative design company.
  • Reducing Working Capital Cycles from over 120 days to under 50 days.
  • Creating an integrated business model for a diversified portfolio business.

Change Management

Empower Key Players to Lead, Implement and Review Change - read more

If change is a constant in modern businesses and organisations, then Change Management should become a core competencies. At Eriskay Associates our approach to change management is not so much to manage the process for you, but to empower the key players to lead, implement and review the change until you are where you want to be.

We have developed an extensive toolkit to help make the case for change, manage the process effectively and ensure the results are embedded in your organisation. However, we never forget that people are at the heart of the process and an honest, sensitive and empathetic approach is key to getting the right outcomes.

Feasibility Studies

Structured Investigation into Market Potential - read more

A commercialisation report provides a detailed and structured investigation into the market potential of a new innovation or product development. Eriskay Associates work with the management team, technical specialists, stakeholders and customers to create a 360° view of the project and it’s future value.

Typically, the report includes:

  • An analysis of the technological benefits and future product and market development opportunities;
  • A strategy for the protection, development and exploitation of intellectual property rights;
  • A summary of how the project will be managed and an evaluation of different routes to market, including potential joint ventures;
  • A detailed summary and segmentation of key markets, identifying the sweet spot in domestic and overseas sectors;
  • A valuation of the product under different market outcomes and scenarios;
  • A financial analysis and detailed guidance on appropriate funding strategies from public and private sources.

Whilst the output is a balanced and impartial document, the commercialisation report provides the basis for a powerful and persuasive business case for securing funding and attracting the support you need to get your product to market.

Workforce Development Plans

Your People Need to Grow and Develop too - read more

As your organisation goes from strength to strength, your people need to grow and develop too. We each need to understand our strengths as well as areas we are keen to improve on.

An honest appraisal of our strengths and weaknesses provides the best possible foundation for each of us to build on. A workforce development plan provides a structured and realistic appraisal of current skills and capabilities and builds an engaging and motivating development plan for each individual – the end result is a team that is ready for the challenges that lie ahead!

Organisational Development

Businesses and Organisations Need to Change and Adapt - read more

Organisations are often compared to living organisms – often human beings! The parallels are all too clear: Growing pains. As the pace of change continues to accelerate, so businesses and organisations need to change and adapt to ensure they are fit to meet the demands of customers, beneficiaries and stakeholders.

A structured review of your organisation is rather like an MOT for your car or a healthcheck for your body (although, less intrusive!). We have worked with a number of organisations to explore issues such as:

  • Organisational Structure
  • Roles and Responsibilities
  • Recruitment and Selection
  • Appraisal Processes
  • Performance Management
  • Roles and Responsibilities
  • Motivation at Work
  • Management Control and Delegation
  • Decision-making
  • Planning for Future Needs
